My Story

I was born in Portage la Prairie to a single mother, and moved to Winnipeg when I was just 8 months old. This city has been my home my entire life, and Point Douglas has shaped who I am.

Today, my husband Jeff and I are raising our two children, Easton and Summer, alongside my mom, right here in the community we all call home. Being a parent, a daughter, and a neighbour in Point Douglas informs everything I do as your city councillor: the decisions I make are the same ones I'd want made for my own family.

Before City Hall

Before entering public service, I spent 14 years working as a legal administrative assistant for two prominent downtown law firms. That experience taught me the discipline, attention to detail, and follow through that I bring to City Hall every day.

My path into civic politics began in 2014, when I volunteered on that year's civic election campaign. That experience led to a role as administrative assistant to Mayor Brian Bowman after his election.

In 2015, I transitioned to become Executive Assistant to Point Douglas's then councillor, Mike Pagtakhan. When Councillor Pagtakhan retired in 2018, he appointed me as his successor, a moment that set me on the path to elected office.

My Time on Council

2018: I was elected to Winnipeg City Council, becoming the first woman and the third person of colour to represent Point Douglas at City Hall.

2022: Residents re-elected me for a second term.

2024: I was appointed Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Community Services, and joined Mayor Scott Gillingham's Executive Policy Committee. In this role, I help shape city-wide policy on community centres, recreation, pools, libraries, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, animal services, and parks and open spaces.

As Chair of Community Services, I've helped lead the City's Spray Pad Investment Program, a strategy I first brought forward in a motion during my first term in 2019, calling for a dedicated annual capital investment to replace Winnipeg's aging wading pools (most built in the 1960s and 70s) with accessible new spray pads. That motion carried, and it's since grown into a plan to invest $20 million between 2025 and 2029 to build 9 new spray pads across the city. Since taking on the Chair role, I've celebrated the opening of 5 new spray pads city wide, giving families across Winnipeg more free, accessible ways to stay cool and active every summer.

Outside City Hall

When I'm not at City Hall, you'll likely find me arm wrestling. I'm a 10 time Canadian National Champion and a 16 time Manitoba Provincial Champion in the sport, and I'm currently training for the World Armwrestling Federation championships, taking place in Ottawa in 2027.

Why I Do This Work

Point Douglas is a community of 15 distinct neighbourhoods, each with its own character, history, and needs. Representing this ward means listening closely, showing up consistently, and fighting for the investments that make a real difference in people's daily lives: parks kids can play in, community centres families can gather in, safe streets, and a city that works for everyone, not just some.
